Two male students from Nalerigu Senior High School in the North East Region were shot dead in a startling shooting incident that is thought to be connected to the ongoing Bawku conflict.

Tragically, on the evening of Saturday, July 26, 2025, unknown gunmen broke into the school. They started shooting, instantly killing the pupils.
According to reports, the victims—who were named by their first names as Lukman and Gideon—were in their dorm when the assault occurred.
Many people are afraid and indignant about the growing insecurity in the neighborhood as a result of the occurrence. This has left the school and the neighboring towns in mourning.
Local sources reportedly believe the attack is related to the ethnic struggle of the Bawku. This has resulted in a number of violent episodes that have spread to neighboring areas.
Dasmani Fuseini, the Denugu Electoral Area Assembly Member and the uncle of one of the dead, confirmed the murders.
According to him, the impacted families are attempting to fetch the bodies for burial. However, they are presently in police custody.
Despite starting an investigation, the Ghana Police Service has not yet made any arrests.
In order to stop more deaths, there are growing calls for improved security measures. Mostly around educational institutions located in areas that are prone to conflict.
